Wildlife at Springwell Croft Cottages

Our site is certified as a ‘Site of Special Interest’ (SSI) and is teeming with wildlife.

Roe deer, red squirrels, pine martins, foxes and badgers are all ‘at home’ at Springwell.

There is a Hazel wood as well as Birch, Blackthorn, Ash, Alder, Willow and Holly trees all of which keep the woodpeckers, chaffinches, blue tits, robins, goldfinches and song thrushes busy.  If you look to the skies you should be lucky enough to see buzzards and golden eagles and maybe even the local sea eagles. Don’t forget your binoculars!

Further afield, you can go on wildlife safaris in Glencoe or on the water from Ballachulish.  There is a seal colony cruise that leaves from the pier at Fort William too. Loch Lochy to the north-east of Fort William is breeding ground for an Osprey couple and ferry crossings from both Oban and Mallaig are often witness to Dolphin & Whale sightings.

ROE & RED DEER

Roe deer are rare in the grounds but have been spotted.  Nervous creatures by nature they have been known to nibble the foliage from our apparently tasty trees!
